DelcomRF Modbus RTU IO Module DRF834R one of the biggest features of the device is that it can be used as master and slave at the same time. The unit, which works as a slave, can “control different slave units connected to the same line” by renewing its status over the RS485 port, if the master feature is activated “according to the user’s request” and if there is a state change in the input channels.

If there is no change in their status, it repeats the input status within the time specified by the user and sends “power failure, data refresh of other slave devices that fall into error” over the RS485 port. Thus, you do not need to use an additional master unit for state change besides the slave unit.

It works on Modbus RTU protocol. RS485 line connection can be used up to  afew hundred meters. They are industrial type products.
